3 · Crypto exchanges — creating the API key
The flow is nearly identical everywhere: create a key in the exchange's API management page, enable read + futures trading, disable everything else, then paste it into Exchange Connections → + Add exchange. Exchange-specific steps:
Binance FuturesAPI key + secret▸
- 1Log in → profile icon → Account → API Management → Create API → "System generated".
- 2Name it (e.g.
PatternX), pass 2FA. Copy the API Key and Secret Key immediately — the secret is shown once. - 3Edit restrictions: ✅ Enable Reading, ✅ Enable Futures. ❌ Leave Enable Withdrawals OFF. ❌ Spot trading not needed.
- 4Optional: "Restrict access to trusted IPs only" — required by Binance if you want the key to keep futures permission beyond 90 days.
- 5Make sure your Futures account is activated (open the Futures tab once) and holds some USDT.
Bybit PerpetualsAPI key + secret▸
- 1Profile → API → Create New Key → System-generated API Keys.
- 2API key permissions: Read-Write. Under "Unified Trading" tick Trade. Never tick withdrawal/transfer.
- 3Choose "No IP restriction" (or add your IP — Bybit expires unrestricted keys after 90 days, you'll just renew).
- 4Copy both values into PatternX. Funds should sit in the Unified Trading Account as USDT.
OKX Perpetualspassphrasekey + secret + passphrase▸
- 1Profile → API keys → Create V5 API key.
- 2You will invent a Passphrase — write it down; OKX cannot show it again and PatternX needs it as the third field.
- 3Permissions: ✅ Read, ✅ Trade. ❌ Withdraw stays off.
- 4Paste all three values into PatternX (the passphrase field appears automatically when OKX is selected).
KuCoin Futurespassphrasekey + secret + passphrase▸
- 1Profile → API Management → Create API → API-based trading.
- 2Set your own Passphrase (you'll enter the same one in PatternX).
- 3Permissions: ✅ General, ✅ Futures Trading. ❌ Transfer/Withdraw off.
- 4Funds must be in the Futures account (transfer from Main → Futures inside KuCoin).
Bitget Futurespassphrasekey + secret + passphrase▸
- 1Profile → API Keys → Create API Key → System-generated.
- 2Set the passphrase, enable ✅ Read-Write on Futures — Orders & Holdings only.
- 3Copy key, secret and passphrase into PatternX.
Gate.io FuturesAPI key + secret▸
- 1Profile → API Management → Create API Key.
- 2Key type: API v4. Permissions: ✅ Perpetual Futures — Read/Write. Everything else Read-only or off; withdrawals off.
- 3Move USDT into the Perpetual Futures wallet inside Gate before expecting trades.
HTX FuturesAPI key + secret▸
- 1Profile → API Management → create key.
- 2Tick ✅ Read and ✅ Trade. Withdraw off. Note HTX expires keys without IP binding after 90 days.
MEXC FuturesAPI key + secret▸
- 1Profile → API Management → Create New Key.
- 2Permissions: ✅ Account read, ✅ Futures trade. Withdraw off.
- 3MEXC prices futures in whole contracts (e.g. 1 contract = 0.0001 BTC) — PatternX converts sizes automatically, you never have to think about it.
DeribitClient ID + secret▸
- 1Account → API → Add new key. Scope: ✅ account:read, ✅ trade:read_write. ❌ wallet/withdraw scopes off.
- 2Deribit perps are USDC-margined — deposit or convert to USDC. PatternX maps its symbols automatically.
Kraken FuturesAPI key + private key▸
- 1On
futures.kraken.com: Settings → API Keys → create with ✅ Full access to futures trading (this cannot withdraw — withdrawals live on spot Kraken with separate keys). - 2Contracts are USD-margined multi-collateral; fund the futures wallet from your Kraken spot account.
Crypto.com ExchangeAPI key + secret▸
- 1On
crypto.com/exchange(not the app): Settings → API Keys → create, enable ✅ read + ✅ trade, ❌ withdrawal. - 2Derivatives must be enabled on the account (one-time quiz in the exchange UI).
Coinbase Internationalpassphrasekey + secret + passphrase▸
- 1This is Coinbase's perpetuals venue (international.coinbase.com) — not the retail app. Create an API key with trading permission; note the passphrase you set.
- 2Perps are USDC-margined; transfer USDC to the perpetuals portfolio.
BingX / Phemex / WhiteBITAPI key + secret▸
- 1All three follow the standard flow: profile → API Management → create key → ✅ read + ✅ perpetual futures trade, ❌ withdrawals, paste into PatternX.
- 2Keep funds in the futures/contract wallet (transfer inside the exchange if your deposit landed in spot).
BitMart Futuresmemokey + secret + memo▸
- 1Account → API Management → create key. BitMart asks you to set a memo — a short label that acts as a third credential.
- 2Enter key, secret and that memo (the third field) in PatternX. Enable ✅ futures trading on the key, ❌ withdrawals.
BitMEXAPI key ID + secret▸
- 1Account → API Keys → create with permission Order (never "Withdraw").
- 2The perps originator — USDT-margined linear contracts are what PatternX trades there.
4 · Wallet-based DEXes — Aster & Hyperliquid
Decentralised perp exchanges don't issue API keys — orders are signed by a wallet. The security model is different, so read this part carefully.
Hyperliquidrecommended DEXmain address + API-wallet key▸
- 1Go to
app.hyperliquid.xyz→ More → API (or "API Wallets"). - 2Click Generate API Wallet, give it a name (e.g.
patternx) and Authorize it with your main wallet. Copy the agent's private key — shown once. - 3In PatternX: Wallet Address field = your MAIN account address (the one that holds the funds — not the agent's address!). API Wallet Private Key field = the agent key you just copied.
- 4Fund the account with USDC. Both the perps balance and the spot balance count — PatternX reads the sum.
- 5Minimum order value is $10 — with the sizing engine this just means keep at least ~$50–100 in the account so signals clear the floor.
Agent wallets expire after ~180 days by default — if trades suddenly fail with signature errors, generate and authorize a fresh agent, then update the connection.
Asterwallet address + private key▸
- 1Create a brand-new wallet in MetaMask/Rabby (a separate account, not your main one).
- 2Deposit only your trading capital to it on Aster.
- 3In PatternX enter that wallet's address and private key.
dYdX (v4)dYdX address + secret phrase▸
- 1Create/derive your dYdX Chain account at
dydx.tradeand fund it with USDC. - 2PatternX needs your dYdX address (dydx1…) and the account's secret phrase — orders are signed transactions on the dYdX chain.
- 3Because the phrase can move funds, use a dedicated trading account holding only trading capital — same rule as Aster.
5 · Interactive Brokers — the full walkthrough
IBKR is the one venue that works differently: there is no API key to paste. Instead, IBKR's official Client Portal Gateway — a small program you run — creates an authenticated bridge to your account, and PatternX talks to that bridge. It sounds intimidating; it's a 20-minute setup, and this section holds your hand through every step.
What you'll need
- • An IBKR account (any entity — including IBKR Israel, covered below). A paper account (username starts
DU…) is perfect for starting. - • A machine that stays on: a small VPS ($4–6/month), a home server, or a Raspberry Pi. The gateway must be running whenever you want PatternX trading.
- • Java 8+ installed on that machine (the gateway is a Java program), or Docker if you choose the IBeam route.
Path A — the official Client Portal Gateway
- 1Download the gateway: search IBKR's site for "Client Portal API Gateway" and grab the ZIP (a folder like
clientportal.gw). - 2Unzip it on your always-on machine and start it:
bin/run.sh root/conf.yaml(macOS/Linux) orbin\run.bat root\conf.yaml(Windows). It listens on port5000. - 3Open
https://localhost:5000in a browser on that machine, accept the self-signed-certificate warning, and log in with your IBKR credentials (approve 2FA in IBKR Mobile). The page says "Client login succeeds". - 4Make the gateway reachable by PatternX over HTTPS with a valid certificate. The simplest way: put a Caddy or nginx reverse-proxy with a Let's Encrypt cert in front of it (e.g.
https://ibkr.yourdomain.com→localhost:5000). PatternX cannot accept self-signed certificates. - 5In PatternX → Exchange Connections → + Add exchange → Interactive Brokers: Client Portal Gateway URL = your HTTPS address; Account ID = your account (e.g.
U1234567, orDU1234567for paper). Save, then Test connection.
Path B — IBeam (Docker, recommended for automation)
The official gateway logs you out roughly daily and someone has to log back in. The open-source IBeam image wraps the same gateway and re-authenticates automatically:
- 1On a machine with Docker:
docker run -d --name ibeam -e IBEAM_ACCOUNT=your_username -e IBEAM_PASSWORD=your_password -p 5000:5000 voyz/ibeam - 2Give it a minute, then check
curl -k https://localhost:5000/v1/api/tickle— you should see a session response. - 3Reverse-proxy it behind a real HTTPS certificate exactly as in Path A, then connect in PatternX the same way.
- 42FA note: fully headless login works best with paper accounts or IB Key exemptions — otherwise expect an occasional mobile-app approval.
How PatternX behaves on IBKR
- • Track plain symbols —
AAPL,TSLA,SPY— in Settings → Scanner (the coin picker is for crypto; for IBKR just type them). - • The same 20 patterns, risk engine, TP/SL and position sizing apply. Leverage is capped at 4× (Reg-T style); IBKR's own margin rules always take precedence server-side.
- • Funding rate / open interest don't exist for stocks — those score factors gracefully fall back to neutral.
- • A gateway trading session can never withdraw money — withdrawals at IBKR require separate authentication, so the security model is inherently safe.
- • Market hours matter: signals only execute while the exchange is open (pre/post-market fills are not used).
🇮🇱 Interactive Brokers Israel — specifics
If you opened your account through Interactive Brokers Israel (the ISA-licensed Israeli arm, at interactivebrokers.co.il), everything above works identically — your account lives on the same IBKR platform. A few things are worth knowing:
- Same gateway, same login. Use your normal IBKR Israel username/password in the Client Portal Gateway (or IBeam). Your account ID still looks like
U…/DU…— find it in Client Portal top-right, under your name. - Instruments. You get the same global universe — US stocks and ETFs work out of the box and are what PatternX scans best (deep liquidity, clean patterns). TASE-listed (Tel Aviv) securities are available on IBKR but are thinly traded intraday — pattern quality on 1m–1h timeframes is materially better on US symbols. Start with
SPY,QQQ,AAPL-class liquidity. - Hours & timezone. US market hours are 16:30–23:00 Israel time (winter: 16:30–23:00, summer shifts with DST). PatternX only executes IBKR signals while the market is open — expect your IBKR activity in the Israeli evening, and crypto to cover the rest of the day.
- Currency. You can fund in ILS; trading US symbols uses USD. Convert inside IBKR (their FX conversion is famously cheap) so your buying power is in USD — otherwise IBKR may margin-convert on each trade.
- Tax. Unlike Israeli banks/brokers, IBKR Israel does not automatically withhold Israeli capital-gains tax — you (or your accountant) report it. Keep PatternX's Trade History export for your records, and consult a tax professional; nothing here is tax advice.
- Support. IBKR Israel has Hebrew-speaking support and the Client Portal is available in Hebrew — but run the gateway in English if you screenshot errors for our support; it makes debugging faster.
- Regulatory. The Israeli entity is supervised by the Israel Securities Authority. Your protections and account agreements come from IBKR — PatternX never holds funds and only ever sends trade instructions to a gateway you control.
5b · Stocks, forex & CFDs — Alpaca, OANDA, Saxo, Tradier, IG
Five more traditional-market brokers, all far simpler to connect than IBKR (no gateway to host — just credentials). For all of them you type symbols directly in Settings → Scanner (AAPL, SPY, EUR/USD) — the coin picker is crypto-only. Trading follows market hours; forex runs 24/5, which pairs beautifully with crypto's 24/7.
AlpacaUS stocks · easiestAPI Key ID + Secret▸
- 1Sign up at
alpaca.markets— you get a paper account instantly, live trading after approval. - 2Dashboard → API Keys → generate. Paper keys start with
PKand PatternX routes them to paper trading automatically; live keys go live. - 3Paste Key ID + Secret. That's it — market data (free IEX feed) and trading both work immediately.
- 4TP/SL is placed as a real OCO bracket on Alpaca, so exits live on the broker even if PatternX is offline.
OANDAforexAccount ID + API token▸
- 1Create a live or practice account at
oanda.com. - 2In the account portal: Manage API Access → generate a v20 personal access token.
- 3PatternX fields: first = your Account ID (looks like
001-011-1234567-001), second = the token. Live vs practice is detected automatically. - 4Track pairs like
EUR/USD,GBP/JPY,XAU/USD. TP/SL attaches natively to each trade and OANDA removes them on close.
Saxo Bankglobal multi-assetAccount Key + access token▸
- 1Register at
developer.saxoand open the simulation environment (or use your live Saxo account). - 2Get a 24-hour token from the developer portal, and your Account Key from the OpenAPI "me" endpoints or portal.
- 3Heads-up: developer tokens expire daily — fine for evaluating; for always-on automation you'll want an OAuth app token you refresh. PatternX tells you clearly when the token has expired.
- 4FX minimum trade sizes are typically 1,000 units (~$1,100 notional on EUR/USD) — margin required is small, but the ⚡ Test trade needs that much equity.
TradierUS stocksAccount ID + access token▸
- 1Open an account at
tradier.com(brokerage) — or grab a free sandbox account atdeveloper.tradier.comto try it risk-free. - 2Dashboard → API Access → create an access token; your account number is on the same page.
- 3Production vs sandbox is detected automatically from the token. Whole shares only; TP/SL goes in as an OCO pair.
IG GroupCFDs · FX, indices, goldAPI key + password + username▸
- 1In My IG: Settings → API keys → create one (demo and live accounts each get their own).
- 2PatternX fields: API Key, Password (your IG password), and your username in the third field. Live vs demo is detected automatically at login.
- 3Track CFDs by name:
EUR/USD,US500,GOLD— PatternX resolves them to IG's instruments ("epics") for you. - 4TP/SL attaches directly to the IG position (limit + stop levels) — visible in the IG platform, auto-removed on close.
5c · Manual-execution venues (eToro, Plus500, Webull, Robinhood, TradeStation, Schwab, CMC Markets)
These brokers do not offer a public automated-trading API for third-party order routing, so PatternX cannot place or manage orders on them — and it never pretends to. Instead they connect as manual-execution venues: PatternX scans and generates signals (with the exact entry, take-profit and stop-loss), and you place the trade yourself on the broker. No API keys are required, and nothing PatternX holds can ever touch your funds there.
eToromanual · no keysJust a name — no API keys▸
- 1On Exchange Connections, choose eToro (manual execution) and give it a name — there are no API key fields.
- 2Run Test connection: it confirms the live crypto market-data feed (there are no credentials to verify).
- 3PatternX scans and sends signals for crypto instruments using live public data. Each signal shows the exact entry, TP and SL — place that trade yourself in eToro.
- 4For eToro stocks / ETFs / currencies, connect a data-capable broker (IBKR, Alpaca, OANDA, Saxo, Tradier or IG) for market data and keep executing manually on eToro.
Plus500manual · no keysJust a name — no API keys▸
- 1Choose Plus500 (manual execution) and name the connection — no credentials needed.
- 2PatternX generates crypto signals from live public data; you place each trade yourself in Plus500 (it has no trading API).
- 3Use Paper mode in PatternX to track how the signals would have performed, and Backtesting (Classic or AI) to validate a setup before you trade it manually.
Webull · Robinhood · TradeStation · Charles Schwab · CMC Marketsmanual · no keysJust a name — no API keys▸
All five connect exactly like eToro and Plus500 — as manual-execution venues with no API keys.
- 1On Exchange Connections, pick the broker (e.g. Webull (manual execution)) and give the connection a name — there are no credential fields.
- 2Run Test connection to confirm the live crypto market-data feed (there are no keys to verify).
- 3PatternX scans and sends signals for crypto instruments with the exact entry, TP and SL — you place each trade yourself on the broker.
- 4Track results in Paper mode and validate setups in Backtesting (Classic or AI) before trading them manually. For stocks/ETFs/forex data, pair with a data-capable broker (IBKR, Alpaca, OANDA, Saxo, Tradier or IG).
5e · More crypto exchanges
Beyond the venues detailed above, PatternX connects to a wide set of additional crypto exchanges. They all follow the same API-key flow as the CEX cards in section 5a: create a read + trade key (never enable withdrawals), paste the API Key and Secret on Exchange Connections, then run Test connection.
Bitfinex, WOO X, BloFin, CoinEx, XT.com, LBank, AscendEX, Bitrue, DigiFinex, HitBTC, Poloniex and HashKey — connect with an API key + secret and trade with leverage where the venue offers it.
Bitstamp, Gemini, Bitvavo, Upbit, Bithumb, Bitso, BTCTurk and Luno — connect with an API key + secret for signals, paper trading and manual execution on spot markets.
5d · Trading modes — Classic vs AI (and backtesting)
PatternX runs in one of two account-wide modes, and both scan all 20 chart patterns with the same deterministic engine. PatternX Classic (Stable · Deterministic) selects trades purely from deterministic rules. PatternX AI (Pro & Elite) runs that same engine first, then an AI layer evaluates each detected opportunity — refining confidence, ranking and filtering — without ever changing your TP/SL or bypassing risk. Switch modes on the Dashboard or in Settings.
Backtesting and the Traditional Markets lab both have their own Classic / PatternX AI engine switch, and every run is badged so you always know which engine produced it. Because the AI layer never touches trade geometry, exits (TP/SL) are identical between modes — AI only changes which opportunities are taken and their confidence. On Pro, AI mode is capped at 5 trades/day; on Elite it is unlimited.
6 · After connecting — the safe path to live trading
- 1Test connection. Reads your balance and, where possible, verifies the key cannot withdraw. Your balance then shows on the connection card permanently.
- 2⚡ Test trade. Runs the entire execution path with a step-by-step report. In PAPER it verifies the pipeline; in LIVE it opens and instantly closes a minimum-size position (a few cents of fees) — the definitive "can it actually trade?" answer.
- 3Stay in PAPER for a few days. Watch signals arrive, approve a few manually, check the Overview's paper PnL. Everything — sizing, TP/SL, notifications — behaves exactly as it will live.
- 4Review your Risk settings. Risk per trade %, max trade size, minimum balance, TP/SL basis (price vs margin), daily loss circuit-breaker. The signal card shows the exact position size before every approval.
- 5Flip Execution to LIVE on the connection card when ready — and only then consider Trading mode AUTO, which executes signals without asking. MANUAL+LIVE (you approve, it executes for real) is the sweet spot for the first week.
7 · Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause & fix |
|---|---|
| “Invalid API key / signature” | Key copied with a stray space, wrong passphrase, or permissions missing. Recreate the key, enable read + futures trade, paste carefully. |
| Balance shows $0 but I have funds | Funds are in the wrong internal wallet (Spot vs Futures). Transfer to the Futures/Unified account inside the exchange. On Hyperliquid we sum spot + perps automatically. |
| “Order must have minimum value of $10” (Hyperliquid) | The computed size fell below the exchange floor. Increase Risk per trade % or account balance so positions clear $10. |
| Bitget: “40774 … unilateral position type” | Your account’s position mode (one-way vs hedge) didn’t match the order. PatternX now detects this automatically and retries in the right mode — update nothing; if it persists, contact support. |
| “Too Many Requests / 429” | Exchange rate limit — PatternX backs off automatically and retries; the coin list also serves a cached copy. Wait a minute. |
| IBKR: “gateway 401 / not authenticated” | The gateway session expired. Log in again at your gateway URL — or run IBeam, which re-authenticates for you. |
| IBKR: connection test fails with certificate error | The gateway is on a self-signed cert. Put a reverse-proxy with a real certificate (Let’s Encrypt) in front of it. |
| Signals arrive but auto-trades are “skipped” | The reason is in the notification: risk rule (max trades, free margin, min balance), cooldown, or blacklist. Fix the setting it names. |
| No signals at all | Check the Overview scanner strip: is the engine alive, how many pairs watched, any rate-limit backoff? Patterns are selective — quiet stretches are normal. |
8 · FAQ
Can PatternX withdraw or move my funds?▸
No — structurally. We refuse withdrawal-enabled permissions, Hyperliquid agent wallets cannot withdraw by design, and IBKR gateway sessions cannot initiate withdrawals. We also verify and warn where the exchange lets us check.
How many exchanges can I connect?▸
Depends on your plan — Free starts with 1, higher tiers add more. All of them run simultaneously; the Overview sums live balances across every connected exchange.
Can I connect the same exchange twice (e.g. two Bybit subaccounts)?▸
Yes — give each connection a different name. Each has its own Paper/Live and Manual/Auto switches.
What happens if I delete a connection?▸
Its encrypted keys are removed immediately. Open positions on the exchange are NOT closed — close them on the exchange first, then delete.
Does Paper mode need a funded account?▸
No funds are used — paper fills simulate at real market prices with a $10,000 starting balance. The exchange connection is only used for market data and (on some venues) not even that.
My exchange is not in the list.▸
Tell us! The adapter layer makes new CEXes quick to add. Message support with the exchange name.
