Crypto pattern trading across 40 exchanges

Crypto markets

PatternX scans and trades chart patterns on 40 crypto exchanges, with support built for perpetual futures, through your own account: a trade-only API key, or wallet authentication on Aster, Hyperliquid and dYdX. Eight venues are spot-only, for data, paper and manual use. It suits pattern traders who want long and short signals in crypto, and it works on every plan.

Availability: Every plan; the plan sets how many exchange connections you can link (Free 1, Starter 2, Pro 5, Elite unlimited)

The 40 exchanges

PatternX's crypto support is built for perpetual futures. It connects to 40 exchanges, eight of which are spot-only:

  • 32 exchanges: Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, MEXC, Bitget, Aster, Hyperliquid, OKX, Gate.io, HTX, Deribit, Kraken Futures, Crypto.com, Coinbase International, BingX, BitMart, Phemex, WhiteBIT, dYdX v4, BitMEX, Bitfinex, Poloniex, HitBTC, WOO X, CoinEx, XT.com, LBank, AscendEX, Bitrue, DigiFinex, BloFin and HashKey.
  • 8 spot-only (data, paper and manual use): Upbit, Bithumb, Bitso, BTCTurk, Luno, Bitstamp, Gemini and Bitvavo.

You connect each exchange with your own account: a trade-only API key on centralised exchanges, or wallet authentication on the three decentralised ones, Aster, Hyperliquid and dYdX v4. Your funds stay on the exchange. The connection guide has the steps, and the crypto trading hub covers the wider topic.

Why perpetual futures

Perpetual futures let you trade in both directions. That matters because nine of PatternX's 20 patterns are traded short, including the head and shoulders and the rising wedge, and the symmetrical triangle can go either way. A spot market generally lets you sell only what you hold.

Perpetuals also supply data the PatternX Score uses: the funding rate (weight 0.03) and open interest (0.02). Funding is a periodic payment between longs and shorts that keeps a perpetual's price close to the spot market: when the rate is positive, longs pay shorts, and when it is negative, shorts pay longs. In PatternX AI mode, funding is the only sentiment input. The trade-offs are real: funding is a recurring cost or credit while a position is open, and leverage adds liquidation risk. The liquidity filter

Crypto has a long tail of thinly traded coins, where a handful of trades can draw a convincing shape and the spread eats much of any move. On top of the volume, liquidity, spread and order-book checks every pattern faces (how recognition works), crypto has one extra rule: at least $3M of 24-hour volume. Broker-traded instruments are exempt. Each exchange's symbol picker also offers its top 20 pairs by 24-hour volume.

For example, a token trading $1.8M a day is filtered out even if a clean bull flag forms on it. The same flag on a pair trading $40M a day can go through, provided its spread and order book pass too.

Venue stops and leverage caps

When a live crypto trade fills, PatternX places the stop on the exchange itself: reduce-only trigger orders on most venues, the native trading stop on Bybit, and position TP/SL on Bitget and Hyperliquid. If an exchange refuses the stop, the position is closed at market (automation).

Leverage defaults to 3× for crypto, can be set as high as 25×, and is always capped by the venue, for example at 20× on Binance and 25× on Bybit and Hyperliquid. If you choose 25× but trade on Binance, 20× applies. Sizing, not leverage, decides how much you lose at the stop (risk controls), but higher leverage moves the liquidation price closer to your entry and leaves less room for slippage.

Before you go live: a checklist

  • Use a trade-only API key, or wallet authentication on a DEX, and never a key that can withdraw.
  • Run the connection in paper mode first; paper starts with $10,000 and fills at the live bid and ask.
  • Check the venue's leverage cap and work out where your liquidation price would sit.
  • Track liquid pairs; anything under $3M of 24-hour volume won't produce signals anyway.
  • Know how your venue holds the stop (trigger order, native stop or position TP/SL), and keep alerts on so a no_stop_protection close or an UNPROTECTED alert doesn't go unseen.
  • Allow for funding on trades you expect to hold across several funding periods.

Limitations and risks

  • Crypto trades around the clock, and liquidity can thin out in quiet hours, widening spreads.
  • Exchanges can slow down, reject orders or go offline during sharp moves, and PatternX can't prevent that.
  • Custody stays with your exchange, so its security and solvency are risks you carry.
  • Funding payments add up on positions held for days.
  • Patterns describe probabilities, not certainties. Read the risk disclaimer.

Frequently asked questions

Can PatternX short crypto?

Yes, on exchanges where you trade perpetual futures: bearish patterns produce short signals there. The 8 spot-only venues are limited to data, paper and manual use.

Does my exchange API key need withdrawal permission?

No, and it shouldn't have it. Live trading is refused on a key that PatternX knows allows withdrawals, so create a trade-only key.

How many coins can I scan at once?

That depends on your plan: 3 tracked instruments on Free, 20 on Starter, 100 on Pro and unlimited on Elite, across as many exchange connections as the plan allows (1, 2, 5 or unlimited).

Does the $3M volume rule apply to stocks too?

No. The 24-hour volume minimum is crypto-only; instruments traded through brokers are exempt, though they still face the shared liquidity, spread and volume checks.
