Comparison
PatternX vs TrendSpider: chart patterns, automation and pricing compared
By the PatternX team · Published
Short answer
TrendSpider is broad automated technical-analysis software, covering chart and candlestick patterns, automatic trendlines, deep no-code backtesting and an ML Quant Lab; per its docs it can’t place orders itself, and its Strategy Bots execute through webhooks. PatternX is narrower: it detects 20 chart patterns on your tracked symbols and can trade them itself at supported exchanges and brokers, after a risk check, with a venue-side stop.
| Feature | PatternX | TrendSpider |
|---|---|---|
| Markets | Crypto on 40 exchanges; US stocks, ETFs and FX through 13 brokers (6 automated, 7 signals-only). | Real-time data for US equities, futures, ETFs, forex and crypto; options and CME futures data are paid add-ons. |
| Chart-pattern detection | Automatic and rule-based: 20 detectors run on every scan of your tracked symbols, every 10–120 s by plan. | Automated chart pattern recognition, plus automatic trendlines, Fibonacci levels and support and resistance. |
| Patterns covered | 20 chart patterns, including rounding tops and bottoms, rectangles, pennants, wedges and three triangle types. | Triangles, double tops and bottoms, channels, head and shoulders (and inverse), wedges, cup and handle, broadening formations in pre-built scans; 100+ candlestick patterns. |
| Alerts and backtests on chart patterns | Yes: qualifying patterns raise signals and notifications; backtests (Starter and up) replay the pattern detectors. | Not supported for chart patterns, per an undated TrendSpider help-center article. |
| Automated execution at a broker | Yes: approve-first (default) or auto mode on supported crypto exchanges and 6 API brokers, after a risk check. | Strategy Bots send webhooks; orders route through SignalStack (separately priced) or tools such as TradersPost. |
| Stop placed at the broker | Yes, right after each live fill (up to 3 attempts); if the venue refuses it, the position is closed at market. | Not by TrendSpider, which states it can’t place orders itself; orders route through SignalStack or similar tools. |
| Timeframes for automation | Eight timeframes: 1m, 3m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h and 1d. | Bots run on 5-minute to daily timeframes and can’t use extended-hours candles, per its help center. |
| AI features | PatternX AI (Pro, Elite): a fixed 8-factor context check that can veto or re-weight a detected setup. | Sidekick language-model assistant (25 messages a month included); ML Quant Lab for training strategy models; AI coding. |
| Premarket / momentum scanning | Momentum Lab (Elite only): three premarket and opening strategies for US stocks, executed via IBKR or Alpaca. | Scans can include extended-hours data and run on a schedule, premarket included; per its FAQ, the scanner doesn’t auto-refresh. |
| Backtesting | The same detectors replayed bar by bar on 200–1,500 recent candles; Optimization Lab on Pro and Elite. | No-code Strategy Tester with deep history on stocks, futures, crypto, forex and OTC; depth depends on plan. |
| Pricing (monthly) | Free $0, Starter $69, Pro $119, Elite $299; yearly billing is 20% off. | Four plans listed from $54 to $349 a month, depending on plan and billing period. |
| Free plan / trial | Free plan, no card needed; 48-hour Starter trial; one-time $9.99 pass for 7 days of Elite. | No free plan; the 14-day trial is paid ($19–$49). |
| Best for | Traders who want chart patterns detected and executed under explicit risk rules, especially across crypto exchanges. | Technical traders who want automated chart analysis, scanning and no-code strategy testing. |
The short version
TrendSpider and PatternX both automate chart analysis, but they stop at different points. TrendSpider describes itself as market research and trading software with automated technical analysis, scanning, backtesting and trading bots, and its toolkit reaches well beyond chart patterns. PatternX concentrates on 20 chart patterns and carries each one through to an order: detection, scoring, a risk check, execution at your exchange or broker, and a stop resting at the venue.
The structural difference is who places the order. TrendSpider states that it can’t place orders itself. Its Strategy Bots send webhooks, and orders route through SignalStack, a separately priced TrendSpider company that connects to 30+ brokers and exchanges, or through tools such as TradersPost. PatternX places orders through its own exchange and broker connections, so detection, risk limits and execution live in one system. That removes a hand-off, though it also concentrates your dependence on one service, as the section on stops explains.
Where TrendSpider is stronger
- Breadth of automated technical analysis. Besides chart patterns, including channels and broadening formations that PatternX doesn’t detect, TrendSpider recognises more than 100 candlestick patterns and draws trendlines, Fibonacci levels and support and resistance automatically. PatternX focuses on its 20 chart-pattern detectors.
- Model training and AI tools. TrendSpider’s ML Quant Lab is for training machine-learning strategy models, and its pricing page lists AI coding and AI-assisted conditions. Sidekick, a language-model assistant that works on TrendSpider’s data, includes 25 messages a month. PatternX trains no models: PatternX AI is a fixed formula, and language models are used only to write explanations, reports and answers.
- Backtesting depth. The no-code Strategy Tester covers stocks, futures, crypto, forex and OTC markets with deep history, with depth and minimum timeframe set by plan. PatternX backtests replay its detectors over 200 to 1,500 recent candles. For example, 1,500 one-hour candles of round-the-clock crypto trading is about 62 days; 1,500 daily crypto candles is a little over four years.
- Market data. Real-time data for US equities, futures, ETFs, forex and crypto, with options and CME futures data available as paid add-ons.
- Extended-hours scans. Scans can include extended-hours data and run on a schedule, premarket included, with pre-built gap-up and day-gainer scans.
Where PatternX is different
Patterns that alert, trade and backtest
A pattern that clears PatternX’s filters and your confidence threshold becomes a signal: you can be notified in the app, on Telegram, by email or by web push, and you can approve it or let it trade automatically. The same detectors drive PatternX backtests, which model fees and slippage, split results into in-sample and out-of-sample periods, and add a Monte Carlo check. By contrast, an undated TrendSpider help-center article states that alerts and backtesting are not supported for chart patterns. Check its current documentation, since this may have changed.
Orders without a webhook chain
Automation in PatternX is set per connection. Manual mode, the default, holds each signal for your approval for up to 15 minutes; auto mode executes without approval but still runs the full risk check. Pattern scanning covers eight timeframes from 1 minute to 1 day. TrendSpider’s help center says its bots run on 5-minute to daily timeframes and can’t use extended-hours candles.
Risk limits and venue stops in the same system
Before any order, PatternX applies its risk controls: plan trade quotas, caps on open trades, a daily loss limit, a cooldown after consecutive losses and, for US margin accounts, a pattern-day-trader guard. After a live fill it places the stop at the venue, retrying up to 3 times, and closes the position at market if the venue refuses it. Here the trade-off of one system shows: break-even moves and trailing stops are run by PatternX’s software loop every 5 seconds, so they only update while PatternX is running and can reach the venue. The initial stop rests at the venue either way.
Venues, momentum and a free start
PatternX connects to 40 crypto exchanges and 13 brokers, adds Momentum Lab for premarket US stocks on Elite, and has a free plan.
Pricing compared
TrendSpider lists no free plan. Its four plans (Standard, Premium, Enhanced and Advanced) run from $54 to $349 a month depending on the plan and billing period, and the 14-day trial costs $19 to $49. Sidekick messages beyond the included 25 a month come in paid packs, SignalStack is priced separately, and options and CME futures data are add-ons.
PatternX starts with a free plan that needs no card: PatternX Classic, 3 tracked instruments and up to 2 trades a day. Starter costs $69 a month with a 48-hour free trial, Pro $119 and Elite $299, and yearly billing takes 20% off. Every plan, Free included, can place trades through your own exchange or broker connections; higher plans raise the instrument cap, scan speed and trade quota and add backtesting, PatternX AI and Momentum Lab.
For example, to track 40 symbols you’d need PatternX Pro, because Starter’s cap is 20: that’s $119 a month, or $95 a month billed yearly. See pricing for every limit.
Who should choose which
- TrendSpider suits technical traders who want many kinds of automated chart analysis in one place, want to train their own strategy models or need deep multi-asset backtests, and are comfortable routing orders through a webhook service.
- PatternX suits traders who want chart patterns turned into orders inside one system, with risk limits and venue stops built in, especially across crypto exchanges, or who want to start on a free plan.
PatternX limitations to know
PatternX is deliberately narrow, and that has costs:
- It is neither a charting suite nor a social network, and its detection centres on 20 chart patterns.
- It scans only the symbols you add (3, 20 or 100 depending on plan, unlimited on Elite), so a setup on a symbol you don’t track goes unseen.
- Detectors read fixed lookback windows, from about 40 bars for flags and pennants to 110 bars for triple tops and bottoms; bigger formations fall outside them.
- Backtests leave things out: the risk engine, trailing stops, break-even, approval delays and partial fills aren’t simulated, and fewer than 30 trades triggers a warning.
- It doesn’t trade options.
- Momentum Lab requires Elite and trades only US stocks, through IBKR or Alpaca.
How we verified this
We took every TrendSpider statement on this page from TrendSpider’s own pricing page and help-center articles, and the SignalStack details from SignalStack’s site, all read on October 5, 2026; they’re listed as sources with this page. One point, on chart-pattern alerts and backtesting, comes from an undated article, and we say so where it appears. Vendors update features and prices frequently, so check TrendSpider’s current pages before you decide. PatternX details reflect the product as configured on the same date; if anything here is out of date, let us know through support.

Frequently asked questions
Is PatternX a TrendSpider alternative?
For turning chart patterns into orders, yes; for broad automated technical analysis, not really. PatternX focuses on 20 chart patterns rather than TrendSpider’s wider toolkit of candlesticks, trendlines, Fibonacci levels and model training, but it places trades itself, with risk limits built in.
Can TrendSpider place trades automatically?
Indirectly. TrendSpider states it can’t place orders itself: its Strategy Bots send webhooks that SignalStack (separately priced) or tools such as TradersPost turn into orders, and per its help center the bots run on 5-minute to daily timeframes without extended-hours candles.
Can you backtest chart patterns in TrendSpider?
An undated TrendSpider help-center article says alerts and backtesting are not supported for chart patterns, while its Strategy Tester offers no-code backtests with deep history, so check the current documentation. PatternX’s backtests, by contrast, replay its pattern detectors bar by bar, with fees and slippage included.
Does TrendSpider have a free plan?
No. TrendSpider lists four paid plans between $54 and $349 a month, depending on plan and billing period, and charges $19 to $49 for its 14-day trial. PatternX’s free plan tracks 3 instruments with up to 2 trades a day.
Is PatternX AI like TrendSpider’s ML Quant Lab?
No. The ML Quant Lab is for training machine-learning strategy models, whereas PatternX AI trains nothing: it applies fixed weights to 8 market-context factors, such as trend strength and volume quality, after a pattern has already been detected.
